Local Information

Georgeham is a small village with 2 excellent pubs, a well-stocked and friendly Post Office/General Store, a thriving village primary school, a garage (repairs only), and church with 8-bell peal (visiting ringers are welcomed). Georgeham

The Rock Inn and The Lower House are both friendly establishments with lovely atmospheres, welcoming staff, and excellent food, wines and ales. Both are less than 10 minutes' walk from Crowborough Farmhouse.

The Rock Inn has ceiling beams and pictures of locals in by-gone days on the walls, is family-friendly, and has some outside seating - enjoy a drink in the fresh air on those warm summer evenings.

The Lower House has just been refurbished under new ownership (originally The King's Arms) and has a new restaurant upstairs (with balcony where you can dine outside in summer) as well as serving bar meals downstairs.

Georgeham is close to all the sandy beaches of North Devon, being just 2 miles inland from Croyde and only one mile from Putsborough Beach. Woolacombe is only 4 miles away, as is Saunton with its 4-mile stretch of beach.

Putsborough (one mile) is an award-winning Blue Flag beach with rocks and rock-pools. It is very popular with families as well as surfers. A walk along the two-mile stretch of sand takes you to Woolacombe. Putsborough beach looking towards Woolacombe Putsborough beach and car park

Croyde (2 miles) is a pretty seaside village with picturesque thatched cottages and places to eat. Here you can get a cream tea, wander round the village or walk to the beach. If you are interested in surfing there are many surf shops and 'surf schools'. Croyde Bay looking towards Down End Croyde Beach from Baggy Point

Woolacombe (4 miles) is a large seaside village with beautiful beach. The picture looks from the Esplanade along the beach to Putsborough. Woolacombe looking towards Putsborough

Saunton (4 miles) has a 4-mile stretch of golden sand behind which lie Braunton Burrows Biosphere Reserve (home to some unique flora) and Saunton Championship Golf Course. Saunton Sands

Ilfracombe is just 8 miles away on the northern coast. One of the boats going to Lundy Island sails from this picturesque harbour. Ilfracombe Harbour

  • Barnstaple, the oldest borough in England, with its historic Pannier Market with stallholders selling local produce and other goods, is eight miles away.

  • There are several gardens open to the public, including Arlington Court (NT), RHS Rosemoor at Torrington (about 20 miles away) and Marwood Gardens (just 3 miles from Braunton).

  • Lynton and Lynmouth with their Cliff Railway and Valley of the Rocks are just 45 minutes' drive, on the edge of Exmoor. Visit Watersmeet, Tarr Steps, Doone Valley and enjoy the beautiful scenery of Exmoor.
